Itinerary
Waqrapukara is one of Cusco’s hidden treasures at 4,300 meters above sea level, still unknown to many travelers. Originally built by the Qincha people and later conquered by the Incas, it was declared a National Cultural Heritage site in 2017. Known as the “Machu Picchu of the pre-Incas,” this full-day tour from Cusco will take you back in time and make you feel like the ancient Incas once did as they conquered the Andes mountains.
The tour begins with hotel pickup at 5:00 a.m. We will head south towards Chuquicahuana, where we take the route to Acomayo. Along the way, we’ll stop briefly at the Pomacanchi Lagoon for photos. Continuing our journey, we’ll arrive in Sangarara for breakfast and then proceed to the community of La Rinconada, where our hike to Waqrapukara begins. During the hike, we’ll enjoy stunning views of the local flora and fauna typical of the region until we reach our destination — Waqrapukara. Here, we’ll take a guided tour visiting the following sites: Intipunku (Sun Gate), Main Square, Towers, Agricultural Terraces, Wiracocha’s Enclosure, and rock paintings depicting llamas.
After visiting Waqrapukara, we’ll begin our return to Sangarara, where we’ll enjoy lunch before taking our transportation back to Cusco.
