Tour Summary
Discover the high Peruvian Andes at more than four thousand meters above sea level along an Inca trail that, for hundreds of years, remained forgotten and still preserves its original layout as it was in Inca times. First, you will visit the high-Andean lake of Qoricocha and then the archaeological complex of Huchuyqosqo.
General Information
The tour begins with a pick-up from your hotel in the city of Cusco at 5:00 a.m. (optionally from a hotel in the Sacred Valley by prior arrangement). You will then be driven to the town of Chinchero, a 50-minute trip where we’ll have breakfast before continuing by dirt road to the community of Piuray — the starting point of our hike. The first part of the trek lasts about two hours until we reach the Queullacocha or Qoricocha lake. It will be quite cold here, but the view is spectacular. From this point, we’ll take an original Inca trail and descend for another two hours toward Huchuy Qosqo (Little Cusco), a small Inca site where you’ll learn more about ancient religious buildings, storage areas, and terraces. Then, we’ll enjoy our box lunch with a breathtaking view of the Sacred Valley of the Incas before descending for another hour and a half to the village of Lamay in the Sacred Valley, where our private transport will be waiting. We’ll return to Cusco city at approximately 5:30 p.m.
Itinerary
- 05:00 a.m. – Pick-up from your hotel and drive toward Ollantaytambo.
- 05:30 a.m. – American breakfast in Chinchero.
- 07:00 a.m. – Start of the hike in Piuray.
- 09:00 a.m. – Arrival at Qoricocha Lake.
- 10:00 a.m. – Descent along the Inca trail toward Huchuy Qosqo.
- 12:30 p.m. – Arrival at Huchuy Qosqo.
- 01:00 p.m. – Lunch and guided explanation of the Inca complex.
- 02:00 p.m. – Descent toward the village of Lamay.
- 04:00 p.m. – Arrival in Lamay and return trip to Cusco.
- 05:30 p.m. – Arrival in Cusco city, end of the tour.

Recommendations
- Do the route considering your physical condition and adaptation to the altitude. We recommend doing the hike after a few days of acclimatization. Our tour guides carry a first aid kit and an oxygen tank for use if needed.
- We recommend wearing proper hiking shoes, as this is a high-mountain route.
- Bring a backpack (maximum 25 liters) to carry your camera, hat, sunscreen, and a bottle of water.
- It sometimes rains in the mountains, so we recommend bringing a jacket to protect yourself from rain and cold, as well as an extra shirt that you can leave in the vehicle to change into after the hike if you get wet.
- You may also bring coca leaves or coca candies, as they provide extra energy during the hike.
