Inca Trail Expeditions Peru provides an experiential journey, an authentic way to connect adventure with nature. The first few days involve cycling and trekking in the jungle, and your journey concludes with a visit to the Inca city of Machu Picchu.
Explorandean Peru recommends that all travelers arrive in Cusco 1 or 2 days before the start of their adventure to get comfortable with the altitude while exploring this fascinating historic city.
Itinerary
DAY 1: Cusco – Alfamayuc – Santa Teresa (Cycling / Rafting)
At 6:00 am, we will begin our journey with a transfer from your hotel to Alfamayuc. Our destination for the day will be the small village of Santa María, located 1,430 meters above sea level. Along the way, we will see rolling hills and snow-capped mountain peaks, providing ample opportunity for photography. We will arrive in Alfamayuc and then travel by horseback, followed by a few hours of cycling, to Santa María. The 3-4 hour descent is both exhilarating and relaxing. Upon arrival, you will have some free time to rest. In the afternoon, you will have the option to go rafting in Santa María (Class III rafting). Finally, upon arrival in Santa Teresa, you can enjoy the hot springs (optional, not included in the price). We will relax there until dinnertime and spend the night in a comfortable hostel in Santa Teresa.

DAY 2: Santa Teresa – Lucmabamba – Patallacta Archaeological Site. Hydroelectric Plant – Machu Picchu Pueblo
After breakfast, we will head to Lucmabamba, where we will begin our ascent to reach the archaeological ruins of Llactapata and continue along a significant section of the Inca Trail. From this point, you can see the Inca city of Machu Picchu. We will then descend for 1 hour to reach a beautiful waterfall, arriving at the Hydroelectric Plant. After lunch, we will continue towards Machu Picchu Pueblo and visit the Mandor Waterfall. We will spend the night in a comfortable hotel in Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo). In the evening, you can take the opportunity to explore the town of Aguas Calientes. Note: Those who prefer not to hike from Hidroeléctrica to Aguas Calientes can take the 40-minute train ride (price not included). You will be assisted and transferred to your hotel from the Aguas Calientes train station (your guide will confirm your preferences the night before).

About our overnight stay in Machu Picchu Pueblo: The hotel in Aguas Calientes will vary according to your request and expectations.
Day 3: Machu Picchu – Cusco Excursion
We will have breakfast and then take the bus (8 am) to Machu Picchu. A guided walking tour of approximately 2 hours will be led by your guide, after which you can explore the mysterious city. If you have the energy, you can also climb Huayna Picchu (2,720 m / 8,890 ft), which takes about 45 minutes to reach the summit. An optional evening visit to the hot springs is available: entrance fees are US$4. We will take the Expedition train back to Ollantaytambo and then a bus to Cusco, arriving around midnight. We also recommend taking time to relax, meditate, and unwind while absorbing the magical and spiritual energies of this great wonder. After enjoying Machu Picchu, you will return to Aguas Calientes to take the train (not included) back to Ollantaytambo and then return to Cusco in our private transportation.

- Night 1: The first night will be spent in glamping accommodation in the village of Santa Teresa. The accommodation includes basic amenities such as a private bathroom and hot shower.
- Night 2: The second night in a hotel is not included. This hotel is located in Aguas Calientes, also known as Machu Picchu Pueblo. Hotel prices will vary depending on your preferences and budget. We can offer you the option of joining us at our local accommodation, Hotel Encanto Machupicchu, at no extra cost. www.hotel-encanto.com. Hotel Encanto offers double or triple rooms, private bathrooms, hot showers, Wi-Fi, breakfast, and luggage storage while you visit Machu Picchu.

- 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 2 dinners. Meals after the last breakfast on day 3 are not included.
- Boiled Water: From your first lunch to your last breakfast, Inka Trail Expeditions will supply all the necessary water. This water will be boiled, filtered, and then cooled before distribution. You must bring your own water bottles. We recommend bringing about 3 liters. You can refill your water bottle after each meal.
- Tea Time Every Day During the Trek: Every afternoon before dinner, the cooks will serve popcorn, cookies, coffee, hot chocolate, tea, hot water, etc. After a long day of hiking, you won’t have to wait until dinner to relax and enjoy a bite to eat.
- Hygiene products: Toiletries such as shampoo, soap, bath towels, bathrobes, and hand towels. All of these will be changed daily.

- Optional: If you feel tired after the hike to Llactapata, you have the option of taking a train from Hidroeléctrica to Aguas Calientes. (Cost: USD $34.00).
